Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated white sugar
  • ¾ cup (165g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large (50g) egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • ½ tsp (3g) salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp (2g) flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar together until the mixture looks pale and fluffy (about 2 minutes). Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until fully combined and smooth.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually stir the flour mixture into the wet ingredients using a spatula, mixing only until no white streaks remain. Fold in the chocolate chips by hand.
  3. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough (about 1.5 oz each) onto parchment-lined sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the edges are a light golden brown, but the centers still look slightly soft. Let them set on the hot pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
