Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large (50g) egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
  2. Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until the batter looks velvety and smooth.
  3. Sift in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix on low speed or stir by hand just until the white streaks of flour disappear.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips gently to avoid overworking the gluten.
  5. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a parchment-lined sheet.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove them the moment the edges are golden brown but the centers still look slightly underbaked.
